This sector report is part of the first ever BDO Wellbeing in Business Index - Te Rangahau o ngā hauora pai - which studies the relationship between business performance and wellbeing among New Zealand’s business leaders and owners. View the main report and our other sector commentary here.





Construction scored 82 out of 100 in the WHO-5 wellbeing index, with 37% saying that they had been feeling less mentally healthy over the past 6 months.

Of those who said they had been feeling less mentally healthy than normal, nearly half cited the impacts of COVID-19 as the most common business reason. Second was employee performance or conflict. Nearly one-third said that challenges in addressing ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) were causing stresses.
