Michael Callaghan

Michael Callaghan was appointed an Associate of BDO Gisborne on 1 July 2025.

After completing his Bachelor of Management Studies degree at the University of Waikato, Michael joined the firm in February 2005 as part of the Audit team.  His first five years provided a strong foundation in core accounting fundamentals, and instilled a deeper appreciation for robust internal systems and compliance protocols.  

In 2008, Michael completed his professional studies towards becoming a Chartered Accountant. This period also saw his transition into a business advisory role within the firm’s Commercial division. Working with a diverse client base across a wide range of engagements has enriched his personal development and broadened his strategic insight.

As a trusted adviser, Michael is committed to providing tailored solutions that meet the changing needs of his clients. His approach is grounded in mutual respect, and having a genuine desire to bring out the best in both his clients and staff, intertwined with a touch of humour for good measure.

A proud Gisborne local, Michael thrives on building meaningful connections with clients, staff and his wider community networks. He has a passion for all sports, and thoroughly enjoys the laidback lifestyle of home with his young family.
