Karen Au

Karen is an Associate Director in BDO Auckland’s Business Advisory team. She advises privately owned businesses, high net worth individuals, family groups and investors.

Karen provides strategic accounting, tax and business advisory services, helping clients navigate complex financial, commercial and structuring decisions at every stage of their business and investment journey. Karen works closely with business owners, family trusts, family offices and property investors, providing practical advice on business structuring, taxation, financial management, succession planning and long-term growth strategies.

Having worked across Big Four, mid-tier and specialist advisory firms throughout her career, Karen brings a breadth of experience and a practical, solutions-focused approach to client engagements. She helps clients understand complex financial information and turn it into clear, practical insights that support confident decision-making.

Born in Hong Kong and raised in New Zealand, Karen also brings a multicultural perspective to her work. She has a particular interest in supporting clients with international connections and cross-border considerations and is fluent in Cantonese and Mandarin. Karen values building long-term relationships and taking the time to understand what matters to each client.
