2017 Pharmacy Survey Results

At BDO we are always interested in understanding what is important to you as a pharmacists, and we wanted to know how you felt about certain key aspects of financial management within your pharmacy.

We asked you the following questions, based on standards of best practice, and asked you to use a rating scale of strongly disagree, disagree, neutral, agree, and strongly agree. 

  1. At our pharmacy we continually improve our offerings to stay relevant to our customers
  2. At our pharmacy we regularly review and eliminate or manage unprofitable and less profitable products
  3. At our pharmacy all employees understand their roles, responsibilities, and KPIs
  4. At our pharmacy we continually seek to improve our operational systems and processes

We also asked whether you were concerned about disruption in the pharmacy sector (using the same scale). 

In compiling the results of the survey, each response provided was given a score from 1 – 5 based on the above scale (strongly disagree being a 1 and strongly agree being a 5) to give an overall score out of 5 for each question. 

The Demographics

We had a total of 54 people complete the survey, of which 63% were female and 37% male.  Of the group, 67% were pharmacy owners and 33% were non-pharmacy owners.

Of the age groupings, the survey respondents fell into the following groups:

Summary

The highest scoring question was question 2 – we regularly review and eliminate or manage unprofitable and less profitable products with an overall score of 4.07 out of a maximum of 5.

The lowest scoring question was question 3 – all employees understand their roles, responsibilities, and KPI’s with an overall score of 3.67 out of a maximum of 5.

On average, females tended to rate their responses slightly higher than males.

On average pharmacy owners tended to rate their responses slightly higher than non-pharmacy owners.

The 26 – 35 age grouping showed slightly higher overall ratings, except for their response to being concerned about disruption (which they scored lowest).
